What a month it’s been, with wonderful experiences on the guest front and the wildlife front.
On the guest front, we have had a fabulous mix of guests from all over the world! It’s been really exciting to host guests from countries we have never hosted before, like Chile and Guatemala. We have also had guests from France, Germany, Finland, Sweden, Italy and England, to mention only a few. Never a dull moment for us, with a best-selling International rap star getting our staff dancing while waiting for his helicopter transfer from the lodge, and a premiership soccer player handing out a few technique tips to our soccer-mad team.
Life at the Reserve over the World Cup has had a new level of excitement for our guests: Soccer by day and 5-star luxuries by night, with an exciting game drive in the morning. I’m sure we’ll have many of these guests back with their families, as we seem to have surpassed all expectations: “The game drives food & amazing staff surpassed our expectations we arrived here with”. Yep, they will be back for some more of that Hlosi 5-star treatment!
The second thing that has made our month so special is our precious cheetah cubs. They are now out and about and our guests have gone home with the most amazing experiences of seeing these beautiful babies. And we have gorgeous pictures to share with those of you who have not had the luxury of viewing these five little creatures.
Check out this month’s gallery for pics of the little beauties, as well as the gorgeous two parents that are responsible. There’s a great pic of Mamma feeding on an impala, whilst her babies were safely tucked away somewhere near Bukela. We also had the amazing opportunity of seeing them out in the open on our access road and camping out in the gulley down from the Lodge. They spent about two weeks in the same area before moving off.
The last cheetah cubs we had on the Reserve are now sixteen months old and doing very well. No need for parental guidance with this brother & sister: they’ve got it down.
Wildlife action around the Lodges has also kept our guests in awe & excitement. Check out the gallery for some great shots of how close up and personal things have been. You can imagine how our guests felt When they came to South Africa for the soccer, and got to come out to our Lodges – not knowing what kind of experience they would have – and saw all this up close. It was so awesome to witness their reactions. The gallery pics may give you an idea why some of our guests left with tears in their eyes, and a promise to return!
On a different note, June also saw us updating our First Aid knowledge. We attend refresher courses every two years to make sure we’ll all on our game in the event of a medical emergency. So it was off to P.E to join our Head Office team, who also put two member s of staff through the training.
All in all, a team of ten Lion Roars staff trained at Ibhayi Conference Centre with a Trainer from EMRS. We all thoroughly enjoyed the two days, and had such a laugh going through the practicals on each other. Check out the gallery for a good picture of us practising getting our patient onto a spinal board – Harry, one of our Rangers was our volunteer. I’m happy to report we all passed and are confident that we are ready and able to attend to any patient until professional medical personnel arrive.
This month we’ve also included some beautiful pictures sent via email from guests that just had such a special time with us. Their words made us remember why we do this and love it so much: “You and your team greeted us with such warmth. We loved our experience with you, from the delicious welcome drinks of Amarula hot chocolate on that terribly cold day, to the most amazing game experiences of our lives – which we will cherish forever! The Bukela Team is one in a million and we Thank You all for treating us like Royalty! We will be back.”
So with that, all that is left is our Thanks to our Agents for all the wonderful guests we have had visiting us this month.
Lastly, a special note of thanks to our very own Driver, Emmanuel for transferring each and every guest safely and with such professionalism! Well done Emmanuel.
Until next month end...........
Take care & Enjoy!
